side stepping the cinemas?

interesting article from today's register about revelations entertainment" teaming up with intel to develop an online system to deliver films over the internet simultaneously as the films are in theatres. this development is one of the many programs that are in the works to counter piracy of first run films. two things are interesting about this news, the first, is that there is a strong belief that first run film piracy is fueled by people's displeasure with actually going to a theatre and that piracy is part of the "convenience process." the second insight is the possibility that the future of film distribution could follow in the footsteps of online gaming where networked consoles deliver online/downloadable content.
