why are there no viruses for the mac?

some say that the mac isnt exposed to viruses, spyware, trojans, etc because of its lack of critical mass and a huge non-secured user base. this article from the register suggests that the reasoning goes deeper: because the mac is so delightful to use, who would want to screw it up.

i personally believe that there are no viruses because of the security of the OS combined with the small user base, but hey, im open to anything.
